Anatomy of a Toastmasters Meeting.

At the Brunei Speakers’ Club, members learn by speaking to groups and working with others in a supportive environment. A typical meeting consists of 3 sections;

1. Table Topics Session

Table Topic Master will select or any members from the audience who volunteered to try to attempt any Table Topic Questions that will be given by the Table Topic Master. No one except the Table Topic Master would know what the topics will be given, and that what makes Table Topics Session exciting and challenging!

Table Topics Session helps members and also guests to practise delivering an impromptu and unrehearsed speech. This will cultivate the members and guests confidence and quick thinking skill!

2. Prepared speech presentations.

Toastmasters Pathway is a unique educational system which consists of 11 paths where members can pick which one that aligns with their personal interest. Each of these path has different challenges which is called as project.

Members will present speeches based on projects from Toastmasters Pathway. Each Path in the Pathways has 5 levels where members might want to complete each level. To level up, there are 3-4 projects that members have to complete.

Each project focuses on different aspect. This provide rooms for members to improve certain skill which they need to work on!

  • Speech organisation
  • Vocal variety
  • Body language
  • Persuasion
  • Podcast
  • Moderating a talk
  • Mentoring
  • Evaluating
  • And much more!

3. Evaluation

Delivering speeches alone is not enough for members to improve! Each speakers in every meeting will have an evaluator appointed to assess and recommends several room for improvements for the speakers to grow as a speaker and as a leader.

What about the speech evaluators? Ditto! They will be evaluated by a General Evaluator. This way, everyone has the opportunity to learn and improve every week. General Evaluator is a roleplayer which is assigned to oversee and facilitate the evaluation session.
