October 2015 – Amran Jamaluddin

Amran is a Weighbridge Supervisor for a cement company and enjoys fishing during his leisure time. Through his tenacity and hard work, he has shown us that language is not a barrier when it comes to public speaking.

1) How did you first heard about Toastmasters?

I first heard about Toastmasters from Stuart Lee who was BSC’s president.


2) Why did you join Toastmasters?

It was mainly to improve my confidence and speaking skill.


3) How long have you joined Toastmasters and how have Toastmasters helped you so far in your personal life?

I’ve joined Toastmasters for almost  3 years. Since then my confidence have grown tremendously and I’ve became more outgoing.

4) Why do friends affectionately call you superman?

Where ever help is needed, I would not hesitate to lend a hand like Superman.

5) You have been actively participating in Contest and Conferences. Tell us about you learning experience.

Every time I attend a conference, I meet new friends and I get to know fellow members better. Each time I contest, I learn more about myself and areas I could flourish in. And lastly, attending events constantly remind me how far I’ve gone on my Toastmasters journey.


6) What are your goals for this term (2015-2016)?

To achieve Competent Communicator and Competent Leader educational title.


7) What advice would you give to those who is not confident to publicly speak?

When you adopt the Toastmaster culture, you will confidently exude your personality and learn to speak your mind. And finally,  to be best of who you truly are.

8) What were your fondest memories as Sergeant at Arms? 

As SAA, I enjoy meeting new guests. I feel delighted where I surprise guest whenever I remember their names each time they visit the club. The other fond memory I have is starting the meetings with excitement and energy.
