Reuben as Toastmaster of the Evening
It has been a while since Reuben took the role of the Toastmaster of the Evening; when he made a comeback for this role, he didn’t fail to impress the crowd and uplifted the energy of the meeting through his humorous and mind-provoking commentaries. Thank You, our Division Director, Reuben Chin, ACS, ALB, for hosting a joyful meeting.
Faiz as First Time Timer
TM Faiz Zailani took up the role as our “Timer and Tip” of the evening. He reminded all of us not to forget the basics while writing our speeches – Organize your Speech, Get to the Point and How to Say It. Well done, Faiz, on your first role in your Toastmasters journey.
Our busy Evaluators
The Word of the Day, “sumptuous”, means extravagant or luxuriously fine. Our Grammarian, Farhan Jafar Ali, CL, also taught us a few tips on how we can replace the word ‘very’ in our sentences. Thank you, Farhan, for adding a new word to our vocabulary and expanding our vocabulary on adjectives.
TM Vui Ting delivering her CC2 Speech
“Adopt and Not Buy”. After being introduced to the Care and Action for Strays (CAS) by her friends, TM Lam Vui Ting was inspired to persuade us to adopt stray animals rather than buying branded animals in her Competent Communication Project No. 2, “Organize your Speech”. Animals in puppy mills experience extremely bad living condition. When we adopt stray animals, we reduce the demands for puppy mills and hence help to reduce animals’ sufferings. Besides, we also help to change stray animals’ lives by offering them better living conditions and loving companions. Congratulations, Ting Ting, for doing a wonderful job in your CC2 speech.

TM Tieng Chwei Peng offered us a different perspective about food and fitness through her Competent Communication Project No. 3, “Get to the Point”, with the speech titled “Talking Body”. According to Peng, how we communicate about food and fitness can affect ours and others’ self-esteem, emotions, and social life. Being health-conscious is good but having a healthy body image of ourselves is more important. Next time, think twice, before we start complaining about going on a diet. Well done, Peng! We look forward to your future speeches.
TM Aziman delivering his CC6 Speech
“Epic Frequency”. Playing with different pitches, volume, and speaking pace, TM Aziman Nasir shared with us an inspiring speech about his musical band in his Competent Communication Project No. 6, “Vocal Variety”. From the challenges during practice to the ultimate joy during the real performances and ending with a reflection of the journey, Aziman walked us through his experience as a bassist. Thank you, Aziman, for an animated speech. Keep it up!

Table Topics Master, TM Macalister Mak, led the Table Topics session with interesting topics about choices. Congratulations, TM Macalister for doing a wonderful job by customizing your questions to the speakers.

TM Deno Goh would like to open a Korean restaurant over a Japanese restaurant because Korean wave is irresistible, especially the barbeque chicken.
Between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, our Biology Teacher TM Rahmat Tarsat would like to visit the botanical garden and the zoo in Singapore to satisfy her curiosity about the biological world.
Both cycling and jogging are fun; however after much debate in his mind, our guest, Adib, would choose jogging.
What would you do if you were given $10,000? TM Dalton Lim would use this fund to purchase iBeacon for his startup project. With such a big vision at a young age, do not be surprise if we have a top developer in our club in the future.
After having a family, Allen Ang, ACS, ALB, would not want to travel alone. Deciding between Thailand and Bali – shopping and beach paradise – Allen finally chose Bali as he needed a relaxing holiday. Congratulations, Allen, for winning the ‘Best Table Topics Speaker’ title with a humorous Table Topics answer. Keep up the good work.

The best evaluator for the night was won by our Area Champion, Pranika Lama, CC, ALB. Pranika will be joining Rozana Yunos, ACG, CL, to represent Brunei to compete in Division K Evaluation Contest and Humorous Speech Contest respectively. The event will be held this Saturday (3 October 2015) at Kota Kinabalu. Please contact Allen if you require more information. All are welcome to join to support both Pranika and Rozana.

This term, in the span of three months, our club has gained 7 new members. Our Vice President Membership, TM Supatra Lee, encouraged veteran members to help new members in starting their Toastmasters journey and transitioning to our club. This can be as easy as talking to the new members during the meeting or offering help when they are attempting roles. New members, do not be shy to ask for help. We are all here to learn and help one another.
The choice to take risks, learn, and move forward is in our hands. Thank you all for a wonderful meeting.
