Food, food, FOOD! Our Table Topics speakers teased our taste buds with their tantalizing speeches on foods they indulge in. Right off the bat Julius stated pasta is his favourite food. However, he shared a touching story on how apples are always his go-to comfort food. Rain or shine, under the weather or full of life, Mum had always fed him apples while taking care of him.
Ahmad is the local with the non-local palette. Ambuyat, nasi goring, nasi ayam are all delicious delicacies however Pakistani food is what Ahmad tells us to eat. We can always enjoy more of those tasty curries and masalas!
How does one choose from the variety of burgers and fried chicken from KFC and Burger King?! As hard as it can be for us, it will always be KFC for Muiz. KFC was Muiz’s first love and he’s been loyal ever since. Congratulations for being voted Best Table Topics speaker!

Reuben Chin, ACS, ALB , as Acting Sergeant at Arms, present the ribbon to the table topic winner to guest Muiz
Before our taste buds were teased, our prepared speech speakers persuaded us to exercise and to watch our calorie intake. Exercise is part of a feel-good lifestyle. Minimal calorie intake will make us feel good too. We are convinced!
Jidun grew up playing all the sports he could. A jack-of-all-trades in sports! The one sport that truly takes his heart is football. The teamwork, bonding, and camaraderie in the beautiful game is simply the best. Now Jidun works at the Health Promotion Center doing, guess what? Promoting health! Jidun will always live for exercise and sports, we should all too. Standing ovation to your well-structured and composed Icebreaker delivery, Jidun!
“Watch out for those calories!” shouted Amran. From all the research done, professional opinion shared, and facts vividly presented, we will watch our calorie intake, Amran. It’s so simple to eat two less slices of pizza or to drink one less can of coke to reduce our calorie intake. With these simple tips to follow that Amran shared, we could get away with minimal exercise in our lives! Sorry, Jidun! Your research in your, ‘Research Your Topic’ speech was detailed enough to convince us, Amran.
It weighs 90 kilograms, it cost 6,000 US dollars, and takes 2,500 man-hours to build. It is a concrete canoe. We were intrigued (our word of the day, folks!) by how Peng built a concrete canoe. Design, structural analysis, material design, and construction was part of the process for Peng. It was an almost impossible challenge to shape concrete that is strong yet light enough to build a canoe from. Imagine that! Concrete canoe, but not sink! Marvelous! She was calm, and she was convincing. Peng is ready to represent Brunei at the Institute of Engineering and Technology Present Around the World Competition. We wish you all the best, Peng!
Speech contest season is upon us once again, fellow Brunei Speakers’ Club members! We will share critiques and inspirations in our speech evaluation contest. We will share giggles and laugh-out-loud moments in our humourous speech contest. Contestants, let’s all do our homework and be ready for our speech contests. It is a terrific opportunity to push ourselves to new speaking heights. Our inspiring Toastmaster of the Evening Gerald awoken his dormant potential in speech contests, so can we!
It was a laughter-filled meeting and effectively educational. It could not have happened without the commendable efforts of our role players and speech evaluators. Tremendous efforts and thank you, Gerald, Dalton, Jordan, Kelvin, Pranika, Hilman, Reuben, and Stuart. A special shout out to visiting Toastmaster Denny for sharing your perspectives as our General Evaluator! Lastly but certainly not least, Jordan showed us why he is our capable Vice President of Education. We sailed smoothly from port to port, all thanks to Captain Jordan maintaining tight command or our Brunei Speakers’ Club ship. Let’s all see each other at our speech contests!
