2nd December 2014 – Beyond our comfort zone

  • by

Greetings Toastmasters, Ladies & Gentlemen!

A candle-lit dinner for two, by the seaside. Special, solemn, sweet. These and more are the thoughts in Donna’s mind about romantic date ideas with her first wedding anniversary approaching. She realized that even though there were no extravagant gifts, romance is about appreciation, and she appreciates every little thing her husband does for her. Congratulations Donna! How you said it definitely touched our hearts!

Donna paints a vivid imagery of her first wedding anniversary.

Reading makes us stronger, richer and better people. A habit of reading results in slower memory decline in old age by stimulating our brains. Ong Yin also provided statistics to show the relationship between reading and understanding one another. Thank you Ong Yin for your well-researched Competent Communicator project no. 7.

Reuben delivered a speech from the advanced manuals, the Entertaining Speaker Manual. He shared with the club on how he unwittingly became a test subject for a Medical examination. What exactly does a doctor’s exam look like? Reuben brought us insight into what goes on behind those closed doors.

Ling thought that university is a place to train our minds hence, it is not necessary to get a job that is directly related to what we study. Rayhan would rather choose a high paying job that he dislikes over a low paying job that he likes simply because he realized the difficulties of not having enough money during his university life.

Working overseas or working in Brunei? After working for a few years, he has come to realize that Brunei is where home is. Thank you Del for sharing your insightful experiences with us. Joanne, our guest, is a workaholic in denial. Stressing the importance of getting the job done, she definitely loves the sense of achievement.

Both the Toastmaster of the Evening, Jordan and our Club President, Hazwan encouraged us to take the first step to the things we aim to do. We are here to learn and the courage to take the first step and push ourselves beyond our comfort zone is already a success.

Tip of the day – Drive safe

Word of the day – Classy
