LOCAL Toastmaster Allen Ang has returned triumphant from Sunday’s Division K “Humourous Speech Contest” in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, adding gloss to what is turning out to be a successful year for Brunei clubs in regional and international competitions.
The event, held at Menara Petronas SBO, saw Ang beat stiff competition from six Area champions under a Division of 35 clubs from Sabah, Labuan and Brunei.
Ang was adjudged to have delivered the best Humorous Speech and also came in second place for the Evaluation Contest, with his speech entitled “Confessions of a Married Toastmaster”. He now faces the next stage: the District competition to be held in Miri on November 8 and 9. The President of the Seria-based Oil Town Talkers (OTTERS) Toastmaster Club – one of five such clubs in Brunei – told The Brunei Times after winning that he was simply “relieved that it was done and over with” and was happy to have done his best, which turned out to be good enough.
Last year, Stuart Lee representing the Brunei Speakers’ Club won the title of District Champion in the Humorous Speech Contest.
