Brunei to compete in international public speaking contest

A SENIOR lecturer from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) will be competing in the World Championship of Public Speaking, representing Brunei, Indonesia and East Malaysia at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre this August 20 to 23.

Chris WH Woo will be pitting his skills against some of the best speakers from around the globe after emerging as the International Speech Championship against other speakers from Toastmaster’s District 87 (Brunei, East Malaysia and Indonesia) earlier this year.

Ruey Chong-Narcis, the Area Governor of Area K6 (Brunei), expressed her pride as it was the first time for Brunei to represent District 87 in the championship since its inception 16 years ago.

Additionally, the Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organisation whose mission is to empower individuals to become effective communicators and leaders through a worldwide network of over 14,650 clubs in 126 countries.

There are currently four Toastmasters clubs in the country including the Brunei Advanced Speakers’ Club, HSBC Speakers’ Club, the Brunei Speaker’s Club and the Otter Toastmasters Club. – Waqiuddin Rajak
