Anatomy of a Toastmasters Meeting.

At the Brunei Speakers’ Club, members learn by speaking to groups and working with others in a supportive environment. A typical meeting consists of 3 sections;

1. Prepared speech presentations.
Members present speeches based on projects from Toastmasters’ Competent Communication manual. Projects cover topics such as speech organisation, vocal variety, body language and persuasion. When a member finishes all 10 projects in the manual, she earns the title of Competent Communicator, or “CC” for short. Most members go on to tackle projects in the Advanced Communication Series to earn their Advanced Communicator titles.

2. Table Topics
Members present 1-2 minutes impromptu speeches on assigned topics. This helps us practise giving speeches off the cuff.

3. Evaluation
Every prepared speaker is assigned an evaluator who points out speech strengths and offers suggestions for improvement.
