District 87, is a region of Toastmasters International which comprises around 137 clubs with more than 6,000 members in East Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia.
Last Saturday, around 20 Toastmasters from Brunei attended the District 87 5th Semi-Annual Conference in Meritz Hotel, Miri. It was a 2-day conference which includes the welcome ceremony, educational workshops, Humorous & Speech Evaluation and gala dinner for Hall of Fame. The event is set in an environment designed to foster communication, public speaking and leadership skills with the members of the club.
The keynote speaker is Jana Barnhill and she truly inspires everyone of us to reinvent and challenge ourselves. The other international speakers are Tammy Miller with the title “If not you, who?” and Monique Blokzyl with the title “Making Money when you are Not on Stage”.
A big congratulation to Brunei Speakers’ Club for achieving 10 out of 10 Distinguished Club Programme (DCP)!
Another big round of applause to Shawn, Hazwan and Zainal for getting the Triple Crown awards!
Allen Ang from Brunei Toastmasters had also competed in the district level of the Humorous Speech Contest after winning the division level.
It was indeed a huge milestone for him. Although he didn’t crown the contest, we all see the growth in him after every single competition he went through. Ain’t this what Toastmasters all about? It’s not about winning the contest, but it’s about taking part and working hard to be better! Well done Allen! Like you said,
“No one will remember who the past champions are, but everyone here will remember the moments that we all create together.”
